A Japanese series featuring URUSHI and lacquer from various regions.
Sanuki Urushi Sinra, a studio that carries on the traditional lacquerware techniques of Sanuki dating back to the Edo period, creates innovative lacquerware that fits seamlessly into modern life.
This exquisite piece is crafted using the “Suki-urushi Tsuyage” technique, in which layers of translucent lacquer are carefully applied.
In the final polishing stage, a small amount of oil is applied to the fingertip and used to gently buff the surface with a fingerprint. The remaining oil is then removed using a fine powder, resulting in a refined, elegant gloss.
The graceful, lustrous texture and delicate reflections of light are expressions only achievable through meticulous handcrafting.
Enjoy the subtle, refined presence of layered lacquer that transforms dramatically depending on how the light hits it—an embodiment of quiet Japanese elegance.
